Upcoming French film: Zazie dans le Métro
will be shown in French, with English subtitles at
7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Mercer Island Community and Events Center
This merry farce depicts a satirical view of the French society: ten-year-old Zazie has to stay two days with her relatives in Paris, so that her mother can spend some time with her lover. However, Zazie escapes her uncle's custody and sets out to explore Paris on her own.
"Zazie dans le Metro" is a French surrealist slapstick comedy directed by Louis Malle, based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Raymond Queneau.
Frequently surreal and full of visual jokes, the plot follows a group of protean characters around a crowded Paris during a Metro strike.
The film will be introduced by film expert Lance rhoades, who will also discuss it after the viewing.
The films are free, but donations are welcome!
